A Day in El Born and the Gothic Quarter

Yesterday, my spanish class went on a tour through Born and the Gothic neighborhood of Barcelona! It was gorgeous and we got to see all kinds of neat things.

One of the first things we did was see el Catedral and although there is construction being done on the outside of it, the inside was GORGEOUS! All around the outer ring of the church were stations with different saints you could pray to. There were candles lit every where and a giant, beautiful area in the center for the choir to sit. Here are some pictures I took, they fall incredibly short of showing how beautiful it really is inside.

This station is St Francesc D'assis, and our professora told us that you pray to him for "un novio" (a boyfriend) (above is the statue, below is the sign from in front of it)

this is a statue that is in the courtyard of the Catedral
This is a famous spot in Barcelona with a sad history, a bomb was dropped here during a Spanish war and around 10 children were killed, but it is very pretty.
this is in another courtyard in the Catedral

and this is one more picture from the inside....
this is a mailbox from Roman times, and if you rub the tutrle it is supposed to bring good luck and keep your mail from coming too slow.

Another thing we saw was the Roman Wall, it is so crazy how this gorgeous old building is just hanging out in the middle of Barcelona!!
(these were taken at night on a different day, but are still the Roman Wall)

All in all I think the Gothic neighborhood is my favorite part of Barcelona. Tomorrow I am headed to La Sagrada Familia!

Adios!
